September definitely has an autumnal feel about it. We still have sunny days but the grass in the morning is heavy with dew, and many of the plants in the vegetable plot look past their best. During this month there’s a noticable slow down in the production of the heavy cropping summer plants like french beans, runner beans, peas, cucumbers and courgette. However, there are new crops to harvest such as pumpkins, squash, marrows and sweetcorn. It’s been a long wait but finally they are ready, and if you’ve grown sweetcorn it will be the best you’ve ever tasted.
